Job Description

Roles & responsibilities
Provide inputs to annual business plan by discussing various initiatives for QC such as streamlining of process for entire quality control
Create annual operational plan and budgeting plan (Capex, etc.) for the department based on targets decided during annual business plan
Prepare specific plans to improve the system for quality control for various departments (Mills, SMS, Chemicals etc.) and centralize it
Oversee validation & checking of incoming raw material, in-process goods, finished goods quality in iron zone, steel melting zone, Plate
Mill, Billets & Slabs and chemicals
Review quality report and based on the report carry out disposition of the materials resulting in financial loss/gain for the organization
Undertake root-cause analysis for various rejections & defects and suggest improvements in process to maintain quality
Validate and provide sign off on audit reports & third-party inspections carried out in the plant
Identify potential improvements in quality management system in the plant to streamline the process and ensure execution
Undertake various system improvements such as altering testing frequency, reducing Ferro-alloy consumption, third-party testing etc.
Manage a team of 150 executives to undertake execution of all quality testing, inspection, clearances, certifications etc.
Sign off on chemical composition of the steel/end product to be manufactured in the plant
Provide technical services to manufacturing departments across iron zone, steel zone, mills to check product quality
Coordinate with internal stakeholders such as HoDs of various departments to discuss and analyse quality issues and suggest solutions
Carry out daily interaction with internal employees to create specific SLAs, customer SLAs, and ensure adherence to it
Ensure adherence to safety, health and environment norms in respective plant
Build mechanism to resolve cross functional issues (SMS, BF, Quality and Mills) and ensure periodic review of action plan
Knowledge and Experience required
Typical role requires a professional experience of 25 years in quality control and assurance in steel and related industries
Role requires deep understanding of national operational practices followed in quality assurance, control, testing as well as knowledge of
processes in order to be able to perform root cause analysis and suggest improvements
